Roof 5 Oxford Strip and Re-sheet Project

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

Maintaining Factory Operations

The re-sheeting was executed without disrupting ongoing factory operations. Fall arrest netting with integrated blackout sheeting was installed out of hours to contain debris and prevent distractions during production hours. Work areas were meticulously coordinated and phased to ensure safety and minimize disruption.

Material Handling Innovation

A bespoke adjustable trolley system was developed for safe and efficient material handling. Engineered to navigate a steep, stepped pitch with various obstructions, the trolley remained lightweight yet robust, operable by one or two workers, and maintained stability on sloped surfaces.

Support System for Stepped Roof Configuration

A custom support system was engineered to accommodate existing variances in the stepped roof configuration, delivering a consistent and controlled fall for the new roofing system without overloading the existing structure.

Weather Impact

Due to the live manufacturing environment, roofing work was scheduled around weather conditions, with no work proceeding during rain, adding complexity to scheduling and planning.

Asbestos Management

Upon confirmation of asbestos in perimeter gaskets and glazing compounds, licensed asbestos removal contractors were engaged. Segregated zones were created, decontamination units installed, air monitoring conducted, and full compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 was maintained, ensuring transparent communication with the Principal Contractor.

OUTCOME & LESSONS LEARNED

The project was delivered on time, to a high standard, and without disrupting ongoing factory operations.

Key Takeaways

  • Early pre-construction surveys are essential for identifying risks like asbestos.
  • Flexible logistics are crucial, especially with sloped or uneven structures.
  • Strong supply chains and collaboration with specialist contractors are vital for high-risk elements.
  • Working in live environments demands innovation and meticulous planning.
  • Weather preparedness is critical for projects over live operations.
  • In-house engineering and design capabilities are key to overcoming structural and logistical complexities.

This project reinforces our ability to deliver complex roofing solutions that balance performance, compliance, safety, and operational continuity.
