Swansea Arena

Considered to be the crowning jewel of Copr Bay by local media.

MCS had the pleasure of working with Buckingham’s Group for the first time on this project alongside Architects AFL.

The arena is part of the £135 million regeneration plans for Swansea and is considered to be the crowning jewel Copr Bay by the local media.

The Swansea Arena had an extremely complex geometry requiring offsite testing to develop a unique panel system that could work with the lighting system.. This consisted of over 100,000 led lights acting together as a digital façade to broadcast events. Such work could not have been undertaken so efficiently without our close working relationship with AKV: the manufacture of the gold panels.

Design was done by our external design partners – Blueprint, who were vital in this build producing over 900 drawings.

Given the nature of the project, a very high acoustic performance required, This was achieved through desktop engineering in conjunction with APL to develop a bespoke cladding system for the arena box. We consider the system an improvement on the original concept. Ourselves, Blueprint and APL worked tirelessly at tender and during the design stage, reducing the space required while maintaining and improving efficiencies on site.

The project required the skills of our in-house rope access teams due to the weight and accessibility restrictions.
